FURNITURE
I love painting old furniture—giving it new life, making it vibrant and colorful. Old pieces are perfect for creative experiments because it's almost impossible to ruin them. Here are some examples of furniture I have painted. There's no need for perfection. I simply enjoyed the process. Especially kids come along to help.
Flamingo Cupboard
The best creative ideas don't go as planned
Few people know this, but I love painting furniture. My parents' summer cottage is the perfect place for it—there's lots of old furniture left by previous owners that was already impossible to ruin :D
I had planned to paint a flamingo on the front and make the inside pink. But the main thing is to start—and then life sweeps you into a whirlwind of new ideas.
Marta wanted to paint a jaguar. She grabbed a pencil with excitement and got to work.
Then the neighbor's girl, Masha, joined the art project. What would I do without such creative helpers?
To be honest, my little artists soon ran off to attend to other important matters... Guess who finished the jaguar, the chameleon, the fish, and the frog? :)
And so, after four weekends and countless creative ideas from my little artists, I consider this project complete!
My mother, however, was upset: "Why did you do this? What am I supposed to hang here now?!"
Alice in Wonderland
"Surround yourself with people who make your heart smile"
I especially love creating with my daughter—it always becomes an adventure with wonderfully unexpected results. It brings me so much joy and freedom, just from the act of creating together.
One side of the stand is painted by me, the other by my daughter. Some shelves are mine, some are hers. This piece of furniture reminds me of those magical moments every day.
It also inspires me with the quotes we wrote on the shelves—important truths we wanted to remember. My favorite is: "The secret of Alice is to surround yourself with people who make your heart smile."
